Just got back from Liberia on Tuesday night.
Was gone for 11 days and had a great time. Took 40 hours of travelling
to get to the village we spent most of our time in. So needless to say
we were pretty tired when we got there. Got to watch some great movies
on the plane though. One was "Gran Torino" which I loved....
When we arrived we immediately were really busy
meeting some of the local people. First thing we did was visit an Adult
Literacy Program where we got to see people being taught English. The
people were anywhere from 15-80. Throughout the rest of the week we
helped build water filters and installed them in people's huts, helped
harvest fish from a fish farm, visited a rice mill, constructed
outhouses and rice drying facilities, helped feed kids at schools as
part of the world food program (pretty much all the kids don't get more
than one meal a day at home), and a bunch of other great things.
